Handy Tools for the Advocate’s Medical Bag

The products we show here are some basics to:

  • Take care of yourself. Be sure you are rested so you can be on your toes for your loved one. (The bedside chairs in most hospital rooms are not that comfortable; you can compensate with a few little creature comforts.)

  • Keep a daily journal to record the names of the medical care team, your questions for them, observations you’ve made about any changes in your loved one’s condition, and notes for needed follow-ups of any kind. Break it down hour by hour, or shift by shift.

  • Help your loved one pass the time in ways that keep their minds sharp and provide a few moments of helpful distraction.

  • Make sure your patient always has a way to get help if you have to step away or you are sleeping. (A flashlight is a backup to the call button.)

  • What’s the Harm in Health Care?

One-third of all hospital patients are harmed or killed by accident every year in American hospitals -- about 13 million patients.

Preventable hospital accidents claim almost 300,000 lives -- equal to 3 jets crashing every single day of the year in America, with no survivors.

Most of these deaths and injury are among older patients, and most result from a strained health care system seriously short on nurses and other critical resources.

  • Our Solution

CampaignZERO offers simple explanations about how common hospital hazards occur and easy checklists to help families safeguard their loved ones' care in the hospital.
  • Why Checklists for Families?

Every patient needs a family member or friend with them in the hospital -- yet few of us are prepared for this important role.

Our simple little checklists can be a big help. Bookmark and Share
